Adventures through the looking glass and out into the big wide world

A warning heeded, or a warning extended?

Don’t let yourself fall for a poet
It’s a slippery slope
Of ever more perfect words
Moulded into pretty packages and
Hurtled at your middle chest.

Delightful manipulations
Designed to kill
These guys pride themselves
On making others feel
And feel you will
And fall, inevitable
And that’s before they even
Set a finger on you.

In the aftermath
Of such a fling
You’ll find yourself
Wont to cling
To every word
They fed to you
In hopes
That some of them were true.

But that’s the reason
You must know
That life and love
As poets go
Are not the same
As wielding words
We live in flesh
Not nouns and verbs.
